The PBGC Single-Employer Program's financial status showed improvement and has been in a positive net financial position, which is projected to grow over the next 10 years.

If your plan was created or amended to increase benefits within five years before the plan's termination date, your benefit may not be fully guaranteed. PBGC guarantees the larger of 20% of the benefit increase or $20 per month for each full year the benefit increase was in effect.

Under certain circumstances, PBGC may take action on its own to end a pension plan. Most terminations initiated by PBGC occur when PBGC determines that plan termination is needed to protect the interests of plan participants or of the PBGC insurance program.

Under the rules established by Congress, PBGC can insure only defined benefit plans sponsored by private-sector employers. PBGC does not insure defined benefit pension plans that cover foreign, federal, state or local government employees.
